The tremendous amount of effort that goes into putting on the GMC Corvette Set Annual Car Show is matched only by the tremendous amount of passion the members have for their automobiles.

While the members might have varying interests in restoring, showing and promoting Corvettes, one thing they all share is a zeal for what they call “the best automobile ever built.”

After speaking to Wally Taranek and Russ Miller, it seems to be something ingrained from an early age. Both men vividly recall falling in love with Corvettes after seeing them proudly displayed at local dealerships where they grew up.

Miller, who lives in Shelby Township, says the first time he saw one in a small town in Ohio, it looked like a space ship and was something he never forgot. It took him 24 years to get his first Corvette, a 1973 convertible that he eventually stripped down to the bare frame and completely restored in 19 months.
