Selfridge Air National Guard
Adopt-A-Military Family for Christmas

Selfridge Air National Guard (SANG) Base in Macomb County is the home of many military families who work hard to keep our country free. Unfortunately, the military has its share of servicemen who struggle to purchase gifts for their family during the Christmas holiday. SANG has two holiday programs that help these families with their needs.

In the first program, SANG identifies families that need assistance and matches them to "sponsors" who have applied to provide Christmas gifts for a family. Once approved, the sponsor is assigned a family whom they then “adopt” to buy gifts for the parents and children. The gifts are then taken to SANG base where they are dropped off for distribution to the family at Christmas.

The second program conducted by the Base is an event for the parents to choose stocking stuffers for their children from the many that are donated by various organizations and benefactors.

In addition to the above two programs, GMC Corvette Set donates money to the SANG Family Readiness Group to help support other family programs.

For the past seven years, GMC Corvette Set has collected donations from its members to support all these initiatives at SANG. Once the donations are collected, volunteers go shopping to purchase gifts for our adopted military family as well as a variety of stocking stuffers.

Thanks to the generosity of our club members GMC Corvette Set raised $1,225 in 2023 to support all these initiatives. We were able to provide Christmas cheer for a family of six as well as stocking-stuffers and aid to the Family Assistance program. The gifts and donations were delivered to the Base on Dec. 15th.

Since the gift sponsors are not allowed to meet their adopted family, our only wish is that we could have been present to see the smiling faces when the gifts were opened.
